Pumpkin "Picking" at Poppell Farms

Its October! So excited Luci is at the age where she can be more involved in fall festivals...or so I thought! Lucas and I took Luci to Poppell Farms at the beginning of the month to pick pumpkins. Okay, just a note to self...if you are going to a pumpkin patch to pick a pumpkin do some research first and find out if pumpkins even grow in the geographical area you are picking them from. So we get to this farm out in Odum, Georgia, about an hour into the country. No pumpkin patch in site...Alas, we find that the pumpkin patch can only be accessed by taking a tractor trailer to the area. So we get in, go the quarter mile which takes about 15 minutes and arrive to the "patch". Basically a wide dirt field with miniature store bought pumpkins scattered around the field like an easter egg hunt for 2 year olds. There was to be no actual pumpkin picking...more like pumpkin selecting. To top it all off, Luci got off that tractor trailer and ran through the "pumpkin patch" weaving around all the pumpkins, gets to the haystack with scare crows mounted on them, turns and starts running down the dirt road back to the farm where the more interesting things were. So here is my daughter, running away from the very reason why we made the 1 hour track to the farm! I think next year, we will pick our own pumpkin from Home Depot again!

Adoption Training!

So I hosted my first adoption information meeting at Wesley UMC. Couple months later, Luci found the sign to the event behind the sofa, pulled it out and looked so pitiful I had to take a picture!

First Day of School

Luci has made it to the One's Class.....man does she have a long way to go before college! I guess what she doesn't know now won't hurt her. She absolutely loves going to school! Maybe this is because she is the oldest and most independent in her class. She is counting to three in two languages, communicates her one word commands in two languages (back and forth) until the person she is talking to understands her, and can move her body in new ways to include jumping, and spinning in circles!

She goes to school 2 to 3 days a week from 9 am to about 3pm. She hates taking naps...the teachers tell me that although she rarely sleeps, she does lay on her cot and read books while lying on her back until her classmates wake up from their snooze!
Luci loves to eat everything but what I pack her for lunch! I am starting to think I should get the parents to pack their kids the hard core vegetables and fruits she won't eat at home....maybe if she sees her friends eating it, she will start to like them too!
Recently, Luci got a new backpack..(photo to come). It is a Disney Princess backpack with cap sleeves and a little belt that clasps on front to make it look like a frilly tutu. Luci was so proud of her new tote, that she insisted upon walking into school wearing it. As soon as she got into her class room, she ran up to a couple girls dropped to her knees, swung the bag over her shoulders and showed them each of the princesses.....it was way too cute!

Summer Vacation

For this pre-second baby summer, Lucas, Luci, Bailey (yes, the dog), and I packed into our Highlander and headed for Philadelphia followed by a stop to see my folks in DC. In Philadelphia, Luci loved spending time with her cousins. She remembered Alexis and Melody right away from their spring vacay at our home in Georgia. She really got to know her other cousins, Daniel, Lily, and Caris. She got to play with them almost every day that she was there. She also loved getting to know Baba and Diedo better and discovered that her great grandparents share a sweet tooth as well!

While in DC, Luci got to see my parents new house that is being built. She also got to reconnect with her Uncle Sam and as it turned out, Uncle Josh who stopped by for a brief visit as well! We didn't do the tourist thing this time. I think we took Luci into the district just once...it was a beautiful day until we got off the metro and it was pouring rain! My dad pushed Luci in her cheap collapsable stroller that kept getting stuck on the soggy pebble paths that cut across the mall.

Fourth of July 2010

This year, our 4th of July plans sort of deteriorated before they ever evolved...so we did some last minute planning on came up with maybe a tradition? Pizza at Joes in downtown St. Simons, followed by a walk on the beach, followed by fire works riverside in Brunswick! Not bad, accept Luci wanted to go after the first firework exploded. She started screaming, "ya esta"! Which means, "all done"....Lucas had to grab the camera and get her on video, so in the interim she switch to English and said, "All da" which means all done! It was too cute. Maybe next year!

Mini Trip to Atlanta

I had to mix some business with pleasure in ATL this weekend....completing a home study for a family wanting to adopt, and spending time with the family! We stayed at the Embassy Suites....Luci could not get enough of the glass elevators, inside fountain, and amazing breakfast buffet! As soon as she would get dressed in the morning she would run to the hotel door and start pounding on it until we opened it for her!

While we were in ATL, we went to the GA Aquarium, ate lunch at Johnny Rockets, and played at the Centennial Park! On our way home we got to stop by and see the Steffen Family in Statesboro!
